Correction services in France

French crews choose between commercial network RTK, crowd-sourced base stations, satellite-delivered corrections and their own base.

TypeTypical operatorWhat to check
Commercial network RTKA private provider that builds the correction for your position from several surrounding stations. How many correction sources serve your area, the published service level and its remedy, the term, and whether a trial is offered.
Crowd-sourced networkIndependent owners, often farms and cooperatives, hosting single base stations.Distance to the nearest base, station uptime, and how each base was surveyed.
Satellite or state-space (PPP-RTK, SSR)A provider broadcasting an error model without a local base.Convergence time, accuracy and vertical performance.
Your own baseYour crew, on a surveyed point. The survey of the base point, range, and the time spent setting it up and guarding it.

Coordinates and heights

RTK Premium delivers ETRS89 (ETRF2000, epoch 2010.0), with ellipsoidal heights. The legal French system, RGF93, is a realisation of ETRS89, so apply the projection and the height conversion in your controller or office software: Lambert-93 for national work or one of the nine conic conformal zones CC42 to CC50 where a project needs lower distortion, and NGF-IGN69 heights on the mainland from the grid published by the national mapping agency. Corsica uses its own height system, NGF-IGN78.

Industries using precise positioning or RTK corrections in France

Farmland: Metropolitan France had 389,000 farms and 26.7 million hectares of utilised agricultural area in 2020, close to half the territory. Drilling, spraying and controlled traffic on that land need a correction that holds pass after pass. (Ministère de l'Agriculture, Recensement agricole, 2020)

Motorways: France had 9,211 km of concession motorways and 2,541 km of non-concession motorways in 2024. Widening, resurfacing and interchange works are staked and checked against design. (SDES, Chiffres clés des transports, 2024)

Rail: The French rail network ran to 27,562 km of lines in 2024. Track surveys, clearance checks and renewals are measured against design to the centimetre. (SDES, Chiffres clés des transports, 2024)

Inland waterways: France had 4,850 km of inland waterways in regular commercial use in 2024. Dredging, bank works and bridge clearance need positions and heights to the centimetre. (SDES, Chiffres clés des transports, 2024)

Questions about RTK in France

Which RTK correction service covers France?

RTK Premium covers mainland France with 2+ networks and a 99.9% monthly service level in the Eligible Area. Corsica is served by 1 network across most of the island, and some Atlantic islands, including Ouessant, Belle-Île and Île de Ré, have no RTK Premium network today.

Is there a free RTK network in France?

Community networks host free single base stations of varying quality, and accuracy depends on your distance to the nearest one. Check what each source commits to on availability and support before you rely on it for paid work.

Which frame should RTK corrections use in France?

Use ETRS89, which RGF93 realises, then convert to Lambert-93 or a CC zone for plane coordinates and to NGF-IGN69 for heights.

What happens if a correction network goes down?

Where 2+ networks serve your site, RTK Premium moves to the next network, and the receiver may lose its fix briefly before fixing again. The service level counts a month that falls short.

How much does RTK Premium cost in France?

Prices depend on the number of devices, the term and the product, and we quote them after a short call. The 14-day trial needs no payment.

Do I need my own base station?

No. Network RTK builds the correction for your position from the surrounding stations, so there is no base to set up, survey or guard.

Can I try RTK Premium before I buy?

Yes. The trial runs for 14 days on your own receiver, with full access to the RTK Premium network.
