Irish crews choose between commercial network RTK, crowd-sourced base stations, satellite-delivered corrections and their own base, and the national mapping agency publishes reference station data for post-processing.
| Type | Typical operator | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| National reference network | The national mapping agency, publishing station data for post-processing. | Whether a real-time stream is offered for your area, by whom, and on what terms. |
| Commercial network RTK | A private provider with stations across Ireland and beyond. | How many correction sources serve your area, the published service level and its remedy, the term, and whether a trial is offered. |
| Crowd-sourced network | Independent owners hosting single base stations. | Distance to the nearest base, station uptime, and how each base was surveyed. |
| Satellite or state-space (PPP-RTK, SSR) | A provider broadcasting an error model without a local base. | Convergence time, accuracy and vertical performance. |
| Your own base | Your crew, on a surveyed point. | The survey of the base point, range, and the time spent setting it up and guarding it. |
RTK Premium delivers ETRS89 (ETRF2000, epoch 2010.0), with ellipsoidal heights. Irish Transverse Mercator (ITM) is a projection of ETRS89, so apply it in your controller or office software, and convert ellipsoidal heights to orthometric heights on the Malin Head datum with the OSGM15 model. Older Irish Grid data needs the official transformation rather than a seven-parameter transformation. Measure a known control point before relying on the results.
Farmland: Ireland had 135,037 farms in 2020, with an average of 33.4 hectares of agricultural area each. Reseeding, slurry spreading and spraying on that land need a correction that holds pass after pass. (Central Statistics Office, Census of Agriculture, 2020)
Grassland: Permanent grassland was 54.0% of Ireland's land area in 2023, double the share of any other EU country. Drainage, paddock layout and reseeding on that land need precise positions. (Eurostat, 2023)
Roads: Ireland had approximately 5,300 km of national roads in 2024, 995 km of them motorway. Resurfacing, widening and junction works are staked and checked against design. (Transport Infrastructure Ireland, 2024)
Ports: Irish ports handled 54 million tonnes of goods in 2025, up 6% on 2024, and 11,861 vessels arrived in the main ports. Quay works, dredging and terminal layout are set out from surveyed control. (Central Statistics Office, 2025)
Rail: The national railway company manages the safety of 2,200 kilometres of railway in Ireland. Track renewals and clearance checks are measured against design to the centimetre. (Iarnród Éireann, accessed Nov 2026)
RTK Premium serves mainland Ireland with network RTK in ETRS89, and the coverage map shows the networks at any site.
The national mapping agency makes data from its reference stations available for post-processing, and community networks host free single base stations of varying quality. Check what each source offers in real time and what it commits to on availability and support.
Use ETRS89, then project to Irish Transverse Mercator (ITM) and convert to Malin Head heights with OSGM15.
No. Network RTK builds the correction for your position from the surrounding stations, so there is no base to set up, survey or guard.
Prices depend on the number of devices, the term and the product, and we quote them after a short call. The 14-day trial needs no payment.
In a fixed solution under good conditions, RTK Premium reaches under 1.5 cm horizontally and 2.5 cm vertically.
Yes. The trial runs for 14 days on your own receiver, with full access to the RTK Premium network.
