Bij traditionele RTK-diensten detecteert een netwerk van referentiestations alle fouten in satellietsignalen en stuurt de nodige correcties naar de ontvanger. De correcties zijn specifiek voor elke combinatie van satelliet, frequentie en signaal. Bij OSR daarentegen moet elk referentiestation dezelfde signalen verwerken in een homogeen netwerk en moet de gebruiker deze signalen ondersteunen.
